Book Writing Applications In Linux

Update - 2006.01.29
NewsForge has an interesting article 'Creating a book with OpenOffice.org Writer.' The article shows you how to work with templates in OpenOffice Writer. Since I have no experience of writing a book I can not determine how helpful this would be. As for writing papers, this template gets you started on a good foot.

I came across the book Unix Text Processing. You can download it for free. The book is has a 1987 and 1988 copyright dates. I did a quick scan of the book and there appears to be some useful information.

Original - 2005.12.21
Over at OSNews there is a posting entitles 'Book Writing Applications in Linux' by Alcibiades. This article does a great job of explaining what a writer needs in a book writing application. The article then goes on the look at the strengths and weakness of various tools like Lyx, Leo, Kate, Treeline, Open Office and KWord. The article concludes with a summary of the tools and the author's opinion of each.

I have been kicking around the idea of writing some articles and books. I will need to take of few of these applications out for a spin.
